Kankakee, Illinois – Heavy thunderstorms across northeastern and central Illinois have already dumped up to 3 inches of rain, with more on the way, prompting a Flood Advisory in effect until 3:45 p.m. Wednesday for parts of Livingston, Will, Kankakee, and Grundy counties.

According to the National Weather Service, an additional 1 to 2 inches of rain are expected early this afternoon, which could cause streams and creeks to overflow and trigger minor flooding in low-lying urban and poor drainage areas. Doppler radar indicated the heaviest downpours falling around 1 p.m.

Kankakee, Bourbonnais, Manteno, Wilmington, Dwight, Peotone, and Herscher are among the communities at risk. Motorists should avoid flooded roadways—especially near rural creeks and underpasses—and use alternate routes where possible. Urban areas and smaller towns like Beecher, Gardner, and St. Anne could also see street flooding.

Residents are advised to stay alert for water ponding and rising stream levels into the afternoon. Emergency responders may issue additional alerts if conditions worsen.
