Chicago, IL – The National Weather Service in Chicago is warning that accumulating snow is likely from Friday night through Saturday, with a 70% or greater chance of measurable snowfall that could impact Thanksgiving weekend travel across northern Illinois.
Forecasters say a powerful cold front will move through the region midweek, ushering in much colder air with gusts up to 50 mph on Wednesday, followed by wind chills dropping to the teens on Thanksgiving Day. The weather is expected to stay cold and blustery into the weekend, setting the stage for accumulating snow Friday night and Saturday.
While the exact totals remain uncertain, several inches of snow are possible, particularly across the Chicago metro area and northwest suburbs. The NWS warns that snow-covered roads and reduced visibility could make post-holiday travel difficult, especially on Saturday and early Sunday.
Drivers are urged to monitor forecast updates and prepare for potential delays if traveling home after Thanksgiving.
