Chicago Ridge, Illinois – A CSX freight train derailed early Wednesday near 103rd Street, blocking crossings and disrupting Metra service during the morning commute.

According to the Village of Chicago Ridge, the derailment occurred at approximately 4:24 a.m. Central Time near South Central Avenue and 103rd Street. Officials said 10 intermodal cars left the tracks.

Authorities reported no injuries and confirmed there were no hazardous material leaks or spills.

The incident is affecting Metra rail service in the area and blocking nearby railroad crossings at Ridgeland Avenue and Central Avenue. CSX crews are on scene working to clear the derailed cars and restore both freight and passenger rail operations as safely and quickly as possible.

The cause of the derailment remains under investigation.

Morning commuters, including students and workers traveling along the affected rail corridor, may experience delays or detours until crossings reopen and service is fully restored.
