Chicago, IL – Extensive street closures are set to begin in downtown Chicago as the city prepares to host the third annual NASCAR Chicago Street Race weekend on July 5-6, 2025.

Major closures around Grant Park will commence on Monday, June 30, significantly impacting traffic patterns for residents and commuters. The initial phase of closures includes Columbus Drive between Roosevelt Road and Jackson Drive, which will remain shut down until July 11. Additionally, both Monroe Street and Jackson Drive will be closed from Columbus Drive to South DuSable Lake Shore Drive starting June 30 through July 8. These closures are necessary for the construction of the racecourse, viewing structures, and other event infrastructure.

According to NASCAR and city officials, the setup for the 2025 event features a significantly reduced timeline compared to previous years. The total build time has been cut to 25 days, a 42% reduction from 2023, and the total traffic impact will last 18 days, which is seven days fewer than in 2023. Organizers have stated these changes aim to minimize disruptions for those who live and work in the area while ensuring a safe environment for the event.

While several key arteries will be closed, officials have confirmed that major routes will remain open. DuSable Lake Shore Drive, the Dan Ryan Expressway (I-90/94), the Kennedy Expressway (I-90/94), the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290), and the Stevenson Expressway (I-55) will remain fully operational. In the Loop, streets such as State, Dearborn, Clark, and LaSalle will also stay open to traffic.

Motorists are advised to pay close attention to posted signage detailing parking restrictions. Vehicles left in restricted zones will be ticketed and towed. For information on towed vehicles, individuals can call 312-744-4444.
