Chicago, Illinois – Scattered showers and a few rumbles of thunder could move across northern Illinois late Wednesday into Thursday morning, creating a damp start before skies clear for the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, isolated storms may track along and west of Interstate 39 tonight, with scattered activity continuing into Thursday. While rainfall totals should remain light, some spots could see a thunderstorm or two before conditions dry out.

Temperatures will hold steady in the mid to upper 70s through Thursday, but a cooler pattern sets in Friday, when highs dip into the upper 60s to low 70s. The change will come with a hazard along Lake Michigan, where dangerous swimming conditions are expected Friday due to strong currents and waves. Beachgoers are urged to stay out of the water.

The weekend looks favorable for outdoor plans across the Chicago metro and surrounding suburbs, with highs in the low to mid-70s under mostly sunny skies Saturday and Sunday. Overnight lows will settle into the 50s, keeping conditions comfortable.

Spotty showers may linger early Thursday, but otherwise dry and mild weather holds through the weekend. Additional advisories may be issued for Lake Michigan beaches Friday.
