Chicago, IL – A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect across northern and central Illinois and northwest Indiana until 6 a.m. Sunday, as heavy snow and gusty winds continue to create dangerous travel conditions throughout the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, snowfall totals between 6 and 10 inches are expected, with locally higher amounts northwest of a line from Ottawa to Aurora to Waukegan. The heaviest snow will occur Saturday afternoon and evening, with southeast winds gusting up to 30 mph, producing blowing and drifting snow.

The warning includes major metro areas such as Chicago, Rockford, Joliet, Aurora, Kankakee, and Gary, where roads are already becoming snow-covered and slick. Motorists should avoid unnecessary travel and allow extra time if driving tonight.

Farther south — including Iroquois, Ford, Jasper, and Benton counties — snow accumulations of 5 to 10 inches are forecast before a potential transition to drizzle late this evening.

Residents can monitor road conditions via GettingAroundIllinois.com or 511in.org for Indiana updates.
