Chicago, IL – A school field trip turned into a frightening ordeal Friday morning after three school buses carrying students from Orland Park’s Meadow Ridge Elementary were involved in a crash in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood, injuring 30 people, according to officials.
The Chicago Fire Department reported that one adult and 31 students were transported to local hospitals after the crash near Midway Plaisance and Dorchester Avenue. All were listed in good condition, though some were taken as a precaution.
Authorities said the buses were traveling in a caravan to a museum field trip when the collision occurred. Video from the scene showed emergency crews treating students and several being transported on stretchers.
In a statement, Orland School District 135 said some students suffered minor injuries while others were returned safely to school. “We know this news can be concerning for families,” the district said. “All students are receiving the care and attention they need, and families have been notified.”
District officials praised the quick response of first responders and confirmed that the incident remains under investigation.
