KANKAKEE, IL – The Kankakee Police Department has launched a homicide investigation following a fatal shooting that occurred Sunday night in the parking lot of 952 E. Court Street.
According to a department press release, officers responded at approximately 10:26 p.m. on November 23, 2025, after reports of multiple gunshots in the area. Upon arrival, officers found Donnie E. Smith, 20, of Chicago, suffering from gunshot wounds.
Smith was transported to Riverside Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead despite lifesaving efforts.
Detectives with the Kankakee Police Department processed the scene and interviewed multiple witnesses. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
