Addison, IL – A Chicago man has been charged after allegedly placing a recording device inside a church restroom in Addison, according to DuPage County officials.

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin announced Thursday that Steven Segura, 28, has been charged with one count of Unauthorized Video Recording (Class 4 Felony) after police say he secretly recorded another individual inside the Church of God on South Scottsdale Avenue.

According to prosecutors, the incident occurred on August 30, 2025, when Segura allegedly positioned a recording device inside a bathroom to capture individuals while they were in a state of undress. One victim later confirmed they were recorded on the device, the complaint states.

Segura appeared in court earlier this week and was released from custody under conditions that bar him from contacting the victim or entering the Church of God on Army Trail Road. His next hearing is scheduled for October 20, 2025, before Judge Margaret O’Connell.

“This case is deeply disturbing because the crime took place in a place of worship,” Berlin said in a statement, thanking the Addison Police Department and the DuPage County Sheriff’s Digital Forensics Unit for their work on the case. Addison Police Chief Roy Selvik added that the alleged actions “violated the trust of our community.”

Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Addison Police Department at (630) 543-3080.
