Illinois – Wind is already pushing across Chicago this afternoon, rattling signs and whipping across Lake Shore Drive as clouds thicken overhead. The air feels unsettled, and changes are already underway.

According to the National Weather Service, southwest wind gusts could reach up to 45 mph, especially south of I-80, with isolated thunderstorms possible as the day progresses. While severe storms are not expected immediately, the setup begins to shift toward a more active pattern.

Across Chicago, Cicero, and northwest Indiana, drivers along I-90, I-94, and I-55 should prepare for sudden crosswinds. High-profile vehicles may struggle on open stretches, and brief showers could create slick pavement during peak travel hours. Use caution on elevated roadways and reduce speed when gusts increase.

By Tuesday, storm chances expand. Scattered thunderstorms develop during the day, then intensify into the evening and overnight hours. Rain chances climb as high as 90 percent, with lightning and heavy downpours possible.

Midweek brings the highest concern. Showers and thunderstorms continue Wednesday, with some storms potentially turning strong. Gusty winds and localized flooding could impact travel, especially during the afternoon and evening commute.

Temperatures fluctuate through the period, reaching near 80°F Tuesday before cooling slightly into the low 70s by Wednesday and Thursday. Despite the cooling trend, humidity remains elevated, fueling additional storm development.

Five Day Forecast for Chicago, Illinois
Today: High 76°F, breezy with chance of storms
Tuesday: High 80°F, storms likely late
Wednesday: High 70°F, showers and storms
Thursday: High 73°F, chance of storms
