Chicago, Illinois – Multiple chances for snow are possible across northern Illinois this weekend as cooler air moves in and precipitation continues, according to the National Weather Service in Chicago.
Forecasters said patchy fog and drizzle are expected tonight, followed by mild temperatures through midweek. Rain chances increase Thursday and persist into the weekend, when falling temperatures could allow rain to mix with or change to snow at times.
According to the National Weather Service, the first snow potential may arrive late Friday as lighter precipitation develops while temperatures hover near freezing. Additional chances for light snow or a rain-snow mix are possible Saturday as colder air continues to filter into the region.
While significant snowfall is not currently forecast, officials said repeated rounds of precipitation combined with cooling temperatures could lead to intermittent slick conditions, particularly during overnight or early morning hours. Exact timing and precipitation type will depend on how quickly colder air arrives.
Forecast guidance shows daytime highs dropping from the 40s and low 50s later this week into the mid-30s by Saturday, with overnight lows falling into the 20s. These temperatures increase the likelihood that some precipitation falls as snow rather than rain.
The forecast may be especially relevant for weekend travelers, commuters, and outdoor plans across the Chicago area and northern Illinois.
The National Weather Service emphasized that precipitation type and snow potential could change as the weekend approaches and encouraged residents to monitor updates at weather.gov/chicago.
