CHICAGO, IL – Wind gusts whip across the city this morning as patchy blowing snow and light accumulation continue to blanket roads and rooftops. The National Weather Service has a Winter Weather Advisory in effect until noon CST, with up to one inch of additional snow expected and gusts reaching 35 mph.

Conditions are most hazardous north of Interstate 80, where visibility may drop quickly in bursts of wind-driven snow. Drivers should allow extra travel time through midday, especially across the I-90 corridor, the Dan Ryan, and Lake Shore Drive, where slick spots and slush may linger.

Another round of accumulating snow returns Monday afternoon, bringing 1–2 more inches possible and hazardous travel for the Monday evening commute. Meteorologists say this could be the first in a series of early-December systems poised to reinforce colder air across the Midwest.

By Tuesday, skies will clear briefly, but temperatures will remain below freezing. More snow chances arrive late Wednesday into Friday, marking the first sustained winter pattern of the season for northern Illinois and northwest Indiana.

Five-Day Outlook:

  • Sunday: Snow tapering by noon, high 32°F.
  • Monday: Snow developing PM, high 30°F.
  • Tuesday: Partly sunny, high 27°F.
  • Wednesday: Chance of snow, high 33°F.
  • Thursday: Mostly cloudy, high 17°F.

Safety Tip: Keep your wipers up and headlights on — blowing snow can reduce visibility within seconds. Slow down and avoid sudden stops where black ice may form as temperatures drop tonight.
