Chicago, IL – Spotty showers could impact parts of northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana early Thursday before a warming trend pushes temperatures into the 60s and possibly 70s by the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, light rain is possible pre-dawn through late Thursday morning, primarily across northeast Illinois. Overnight lows are expected in the low 30s.
Conditions improve later Thursday, though cooler temperatures are expected near Lake Michigan, where onshore flow will limit daytime warming.
By Friday, highs are forecast between 60 and 73 degrees inland, with continued lake cooling closer to the shoreline. The warming trend continues into Saturday, with highs again reaching the low 60s to low 70s.
Sunday brings breezier conditions, especially near Lake Michigan, where temperatures may remain in the 50s to mid-60s despite warmer inland areas.
The National Weather Service notes that while inland locations see a steady warmup, lakefront areas will likely stay cooler through much of the period due to persistent onshore winds.
The shifting conditions may impact commuters and students, especially with early showers Thursday followed by fluctuating temperatures near the lake.
