CHICAGO – Two separate fall storm systems are on track to move across northern Illinois through early next week, bringing several rounds of showers, gusty winds, and isolated thunderstorms. The National Weather Service in Chicago reports that the first system will pass through tonight into Sunday, followed by another quick-moving front Monday night into Tuesday.
According to the NWS Chicago office, Fall Storm #1 will produce scattered showers and thunderstorms mainly east of I-55 this evening, with small hail and strong winds possible. Gusty northwest winds over 35 mph are expected Sunday, especially near the lakefront and open areas west of Chicago. Temperatures will fall from the upper 70s today into the upper 50s by Sunday.
Fall Storm #2 arrives late Monday with more showers and southwest wind gusts above 30 mph. Tuesday will stay blustery and cooler, with highs only in the low to mid-50s. Between systems, several dry periods are expected, but the week will feature a breezy, unsettled pattern overall.
Commuters along I-90, I-88, and I-80 should expect brief downpours and crosswinds, particularly Sunday morning and again late Monday. Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor items and prepare for cooler, windy conditions early in the week.
