Chicago, Illinois – Temperatures across the Chicago area are cooling into the 40s Friday as gusty winds diminish and morning drizzle and showers come to an end, setting up a brief return to wintry weather this weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, Friday will remain mostly cloudy, with lingering light rain or drizzle ending early. High temperatures are expected to stay in the 40s, cooler than recent days but still above freezing.

A more winterlike pattern is forecast to return late Friday night into Saturday. Forecasters said wet snow may develop Saturday, with the best potential for accumulation mainly north of Interstate 80. While snow amounts are expected to remain limited, periods of snow combined with blustery conditions could create slick travel at times.

Saturday afternoon and evening are expected to turn blustery, with daytime highs ranging from the low to upper 30s. Overnight lows Saturday night are forecast to drop into the upper teens to mid-20s, allowing untreated surfaces to refreeze.

On Sunday, colder air will remain in place, with morning snow showers possible, especially near northwest Indiana, before skies begin to clear. Daytime highs Sunday are forecast to reach the upper 20s to low 30s, accompanied by brisk winds that may make it feel colder.

Conditions are expected to moderate again by Monday, with highs rebounding into the upper 30s to low 40s under breezy conditions.

The National Weather Service emphasized that while this will not be a major winter storm, localized slick roads are possible Saturday and early Sunday, particularly during snow showers and overnight refreezing.

Commuters, students, and weekend travelers should monitor forecast updates and plan for changing road conditions, especially in areas north of I-80. Additional updates will be issued as confidence increases regarding snowfall placement and impacts.
