Chicago, IL – Chicago residents will see a brief window of sunshine this morning before increasing clouds settle in for the afternoon, signaling the start of a gray and damp stretch that may last several days, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Chicago. Forecasters say rain and drizzle are expected to develop late tonight into Tuesday, bringing cooler, unsettled weather across the region.
According to the NWS, today’s highs will range from 46 to 52 degrees, with clouds thickening steadily by the afternoon. Any remaining sunshine will likely disappear quickly, and by tonight, the chance for light rain increases—especially after midnight. Overnight lows will fall into the upper 30s.
Tuesday remains cloudy with pockets of light rain or drizzle at times. High temperatures will stay cooler, topping out in the low to mid-40s. While rainfall amounts are expected to be light, the persistent dampness may create slick spots during the morning commute and keep conditions feeling chilly throughout the day.
Wednesday offers little improvement, with mostly cloudy skies continuing and highs between 41 and 47 degrees. The NWS notes that widespread sunshine may not return until late in the week or even into the weekend, as a slow-moving pattern keeps cloud cover locked over northeastern Illinois.
Thursday brings slightly milder air with highs between 48 and 56 degrees, but cloud cover is expected to remain dominant. The persistent gray skies could impact travel, outdoor plans, and general visibility during early-morning hours.
Residents across Chicago, Cook County, and the surrounding suburbs should plan for several days of overcast, cool, and occasionally damp weather.
