Chicago, IL – Mostly dry and seasonable winter weather is expected across northern Illinois through the weekend, with a warming trend setting in early next week, according to the National Weather Service in Chicago.

Forecasters say daytime highs will remain in the 20s to low 30s through Saturday, with overnight lows dropping into the teens and lower 20s. Skies are expected to remain mostly cloudy, but no widespread precipitation is anticipated during this period.

The one weather exception comes Sunday evening, when a chance for a light wintry mix may develop across far northern Illinois. The National Weather Service noted that any precipitation would be light and primarily confined to areas near the Wisconsin border. Impacts are expected to be limited, though brief slick spots could develop on untreated roads if precipitation materializes.

By Monday, temperatures are forecast to moderate noticeably. Highs are expected to climb into the lower to mid-40s, followed by an even warmer day Tuesday when afternoon temperatures may reach the mid to upper 40s and low 50s across the Chicago metro area and surrounding communities.

Overnight lows will also trend warmer early next week, rising into the upper 20s and low 30s, reducing the likelihood of widespread refreeze issues compared to the weekend.

The National Weather Service emphasized that aside from the limited wintry mix potential Sunday night, dry conditions are expected to continue into much of next week, supporting improving travel conditions.

Commuters and outdoor workers may notice the biggest change by Tuesday, when temperatures feel significantly milder compared to the cold start of the weekend.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts, especially if traveling Sunday evening in northern portions of the region, as timing and coverage of the wintry mix could still be refined.
