Chicago, IL – Mild temperatures continue across northern Illinois today and Saturday before a cold front ushers in a noticeably cooler pattern to close out the weekend, according to the National Weather Service in Chicago.

Friday will deliver another unseasonably warm afternoon, with highs ranging from the low 60s near the lake to around 70 degrees inland. Overnight lows will settle in the low to mid-50s. Similar warmth is expected Saturday, but a major shift arrives by the afternoon as a cold front sweeps through the region.

Forecasters say Saturday will turn breezy, with gusty winds developing behind the front. Highs will still reach the mid-60s to low 70s, but temperatures begin falling quickly Saturday night as much cooler air moves in. Lows drop into the low 30s to around 40 degrees.

Sunday brings the most dramatic change. Highs will struggle to reach the upper 40s to low 50s, marking a nearly 20-degree drop from Saturday’s warmth. Breezy conditions will continue, and the return of cold air will give the day a much more seasonal feel across Chicagoland.

Early next week looks even more unsettled. According to the National Weather Service, Monday brings a chance for rain and a brief wintry mix, especially during the morning as temperatures range from the upper 20s to upper 30s. Highs Monday will only reach the low to mid-40s.

Tuesday stays chilly, with highs in the mid-40s and another round of clouds and spotty morning showers possible. Overnight lows dip back into the upper 20s and low 30s.

Residents across northern Illinois should prepare for a rapid temperature drop this weekend and keep an eye on Monday’s early wintry mix potential.
