Chicago, Illinois – Areas of fog and unseasonably mild temperatures may affect travel across the Chicago region through midweek.
According to the US National Weather Service in Chicago, fog has developed mainly south of Interstate 80 early Monday, with visibility reduced in some locations during the morning commute. Conditions are expected to gradually improve as breezy winds increase later in the day.
High temperatures Monday are forecast between 61 and 66 degrees, well above normal for mid-February. Breezy southwest winds will continue into Tuesday, when highs are projected between 47 and 60 degrees, including cooler readings near Lake Michigan.
Rain chances return late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, with precipitation probabilities ranging from 40 to 70 percent. Highs Wednesday are expected between 62 and 69 degrees before a north-to-south temperature gradient sets up Thursday, with highs ranging from the upper 40s north to mid-60s south.
Drivers along Interstate 80, Interstate 94, Interstate 55, and Interstate 290 may encounter changing visibility in fog early Monday and wet pavement during periods of rain Tuesday night through Thursday. Gusty winds Wednesday could also affect high-profile vehicles.
Additional rain chances are possible Thursday, followed by cooler temperatures Friday. A mix of rain and snow may develop north of I-80 by the end of the week as highs drop into the 40s.
The shifting conditions could impact commuters and students traveling during early morning hours.
Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts as rain timing becomes clearer later this week.
