Chicago, Illinois – Gusty winds and late-week rain chances could affect travel across northern Illinois this week.

According to the US National Weather Service in Chicago, slightly cooler conditions Tuesday will give way to warmer temperatures Wednesday before another system brings rain chances and falling temperatures later in the week.

Highs Tuesday are expected in the mid-50s to near 60 degrees, with cooler readings near the Lake Michigan shoreline. Rain chances increase overnight into early Wednesday, followed by dry but windy conditions during the day. Wind gusts could become strong enough to elevate fire weather concerns, particularly along and south of Interstate 80 and near Interstate 55.

By Thursday, highs are forecast in the mid-50s to mid-60s with increasing rain chances, ranging from 40% to 60%. Stronger storm activity is possible in some areas. Motorists along Interstate 90, Interstate 94, and Interstate 294 should prepare for reduced visibility during heavier showers.

Friday brings a 20% to 40% chance of rain, with a possible rain/snow mix mainly north of Interstate 80. Temperatures are expected to fall into the 40s during the day and into the 20s overnight. By Saturday, highs cool further into the upper 30s to low 40s, with lows dipping into the teens and 20s.

Commuters, delivery drivers, and students should plan for shifting conditions, particularly during the Wednesday wind event and Friday precipitation.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts as timing and precipitation types may shift.
