Chicago, Illinois – High temperatures climbing into the upper 40s and mid-50s will bring above-average warmth across the Chicago area through the weekend, reducing snow cover and improving travel conditions along I-90 and I-94.
According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, dry and mild weather is expected through at least early next week. Highs Wednesday and Thursday will range from 40 to 49 degrees, followed by upper 40s to mid-50s Friday through Sunday. Overnight lows will gradually rise from the 20s into the lower 30s by the weekend.
Saturday highs are forecast between 48 and 53 degrees, with slightly cooler readings near Lake Michigan. By Sunday, inland areas could reach 55 degrees, significantly warmer than average mid-February highs in the 30s.
Major corridors including I-55, I-80, I-88, and US-41 are expected to remain dry, offering favorable travel conditions for commuters and weekend events. Any remaining snow piles will continue melting during afternoon hours, though refreezing is possible overnight where temperatures dip below freezing.
No significant precipitation is expected during this stretch, and skies will range from mostly sunny to partly cloudy through the period.
The warming trend may also lead to increased pedestrian and bicycle activity, particularly near the lakefront and downtown corridors.
Residents should continue monitoring forecasts at weather.gov/chicago for updates, especially if late-week changes develop.
