Chicago, Ill. – Drivers along I-90 and I-94 should prepare for unusual February warmth through Wednesday afternoon as highs climb to 66 degrees, accelerating snowmelt and creating ponding on area roadways during peak travel hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, above-average temperatures will continue through midweek, with afternoon highs ranging from the upper 50s to mid-60s. Monday and Wednesday will be especially mild and breezy, with southwest winds adding to rapid melting across the metro.

The warmest readings are expected away from Lake Michigan, while neighborhoods near Lake Shore Drive may see slightly cooler air due to onshore flow. Even so, temperatures will remain well above seasonal norms along I-55, I-290 and I-80.

Most areas stay dry through Tuesday afternoon, but the next chance for precipitation arrives Tuesday night. Rain probabilities increase to around 30% to 60% into early Wednesday, which could lead to wet pavement and reduced visibility for the Wednesday morning commute, particularly along I-294 and I-57.

Additional scattered rain chances return late Thursday into Friday as temperatures gradually trend closer to seasonal averages. While no major storms are expected at this time, drivers should monitor updates as timing and coverage of rain may shift.

Milder conditions persist through midweek before more typical February temperatures return by next weekend.
