Chicago, IL – Two men are facing felony charges after an armed robbery aboard a CTA bus on the South Side led to a swift arrest Monday night, according to Chicago police.

Authorities say the incident occurred on December 15, 2025, in the 2500 block of South Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. A 26-year-old man told officers that two offenders approached him on the bus, brandished a sharp object, and demanded his belongings, including a cellphone and cash. The offenders then fled the bus, police said.

According to the Chicago Police Department, responding 1st District officers received a radio broadcast with a description of the suspects. Within 15 minutes, officers located and detained two individuals matching that description. The victim’s stolen items were also recovered.

Police credited the quick coordination between patrol officers, the Citywide Robbery Task Force, and the Public Transportation Section’s Strategic Decision Support Center for helping secure the charges.

Authorities charged 22-year-old Trayshawn Wheeler with one felony count of armed robbery with a dangerous weapon, one count of obstructing identification, and one issuance of warrant. Twenty-year-old Malik Majial was also charged with one felony count of armed robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Chicago police commended the teamwork that led to the arrests, calling it a “swift resolution” to the case.
