Chicago, IL – A Chicago man will spend the next 17 years in federal prison for his role in two violent carjackings that targeted drivers at gas stations on the South Side, including one victim who relied on crutches to walk.

According to federal prosecutors, 35-year-old Edmund Singleton conspired with two other men to carry out the crimes during a single night in November 2022. In the first incident, the group arrived in a stolen vehicle at a gas station in the Roseland neighborhood, where two accomplices forcibly took an Infiniti Q50 from a driver pumping gas. One gun was pressed so forcefully into the victim’s back that it left a visible bruise.

A few hours later, the group struck again at a gas station in Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood. Prosecutors said the co-defendants pointed firearms at a driver who required crutches for mobility. The victim fell to the ground as the armed men approached. The suspects attempted to steal the victim’s BMW X6 but abandoned the effort when they were unable to operate the specially modified vehicle.

Singleton then drove the group from the scene, triggering a police pursuit that involved officers and a helicopter. Authorities said the suspects eventually abandoned the vehicle and fled through residential backyards while still armed, discarding their guns before being taken into custody.

A federal jury convicted Singleton and co-defendant Ramone Bradley, 27, last year on carjacking and firearm charges. On January 8, 2026, U.S. District Judge Matthew F. Kennelly sentenced Singleton to 17 years in prison, citing an obstruction of justice enhancement after finding Singleton paid a co-defendant to create a false alibi affidavit.

Bradley was sentenced last year to nine years in prison. A third defendant, Marquell Davis, 23, pleaded guilty and received a 12-year sentence.

Federal officials said the case highlights the lasting impact violent carjackings have on victims and community safety across Chicago.
