Chicago, IL – A 36-year-old man has been charged in connection with a September armed robbery at the Green Line Cicero station, following a months-long investigation by Chicago police and Cook County authorities.

According to the Chicago Police Department, the incident occurred on September 23, 2025, when two men allegedly approached a 44-year-old man at the CTA’s Cicero station on West Lake Street and demanded his belongings. When the victim refused, one of the offenders allegedly brandished a firearm and took the victim’s cellphone before fleeing the scene.

Detectives with the Public Transportation Strategic Decision Support Center (SDSC Room) reviewed CTA video footage to identify the suspects. Images were distributed to the Citywide Robbery Task Force, which ultimately identified Johnathan Mason as one of the offenders.

Task force officers, with assistance from the Cook County Sheriff’s Police, arrested Mason on December 15, 2025, in the 3100 block of West Flournoy Street. He was charged with one felony count of Armed Robbery with a Firearm. Police said the investigation remains ongoing.

Officials credited the arrest to enhanced collaboration between Chicago’s Public Transportation Section, Citywide Robbery Task Force, and the newly upgraded SDSC Room, which monitors real-time CTA video feeds. The department said the system has already helped secure arrests in 18 violent crime cases this year.
