Chicago, IL – A significant heatwave is expected to impact Chicago starting Monday, bringing potentially dangerous temperatures and humidity levels. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns that the peak heat index could exceed 100°F on both Monday and Tuesday.

According to the NWS, these extreme conditions are especially concerning given the recent cooler weather. Residents are urged to take precautions as acclimatization to this heat might be lower than usual for late August.

The high temperature on Monday is forecasted to reach 95°F, climbing to a sweltering 98°F by Tuesday. Sunday will also be warm, with a high of 90°F, providing little relief ahead of the heatwave. Nighttime offers limited respite, as lows will remain in the mid-70s.

To stay safe, the NWS advises staying indoors, especially during the peak heat of the day. Cooling shelters should be located, and hydration should be prioritized. The heat is expected to begin subsiding by Wednesday, with a high of 89°F, followed by cooler days toward the end of the week.
