Chicago, IL – Chicago is bracing for a significant drop in temperatures this weekend, with lows expected to dip into the freezing 30s after a period of spring storms.

According to the U.S. National Weather Service, temperatures will continue to cool into the weekend, with Friday reaching a high of just 46-50°F, followed by Saturday’s high of 45-53°F. Overnight lows will plummet to 32-38°F, signaling the return of freezing conditions.

After the storms clear on Thursday evening, the weather will remain unsettled with additional showers expected Friday, particularly south of I-80. However, the big shift will come as cold air from the north pushes into the region, making it feel much more like winter than spring.

The National Weather Service notes that this cold front is expected to last through the weekend, with temperatures trending well below average for early April. Freezing temperatures could affect early plants and crops, with frost warnings in some areas.
