Chicago, Illinois – Above-normal temperatures will continue across Chicago this week, but drizzle and fog are expected to create the most impactful conditions Wednesday into Christmas Day, according to the National Weather Service.
Tonight, temperatures will fall to 34 to 40 degrees, with patchy sprinkles or drizzle possible during the evening. Tuesday will remain mild, with highs ranging from 43 to 51 degrees, under mostly cloudy skies.
Conditions deteriorate on Wednesday, which is expected to be the most affected day. Forecasters call for widespread drizzle developing during the afternoon, continuing into Wednesday night. Highs will range from 39 to 49 degrees, with lows between 35 and 44. Persistent low clouds and fog could reduce visibility, especially during the evening commute.
On Christmas Day, drizzle and fog may linger, particularly south of Interstate 80, with a 30 to 60 percent chance of light precipitation. Temperatures will remain unseasonably mild, with highs between 40 and 54 degrees and lows from 37 to 47.
By Friday, conditions trend drier, with partly cloudy skies and warmer temperatures returning. Highs are expected to reach 46 to 59 degrees, continuing the stretch of above-normal warmth.
While no winter weather hazards are expected, motorists are advised to use caution on wet roads and during periods of reduced visibility, particularly Wednesday and early Thursday.
