Chicago, Illinois – A Chicago man was charged after deputies found two loaded guns during a traffic stop.
According to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Organized Crime Division investigators stopped a Dodge Charger around 5:15 p.m. Feb. 8 in the 500 block of East 75th Street for allegedly not having registration.
Authorities said the passenger, identified as 38-year-old William Jones, stepped out of the vehicle before it was towed. Investigators allegedly observed what appeared to be a firearm in his waistband and conducted a search.
Deputies reported recovering two loaded firearms from Jones’ person. One of the weapons had been reported stolen from Chicago, according to the sheriff’s office. Officials said Jones did not possess a valid Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) card or a concealed carry license.
The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved two counts of possession of a firearm by a repeat felony offender later that night, authorities said.
Jones was ordered held in custody at the Cook County Jail on Feb. 9 following his initial court appearance at the George N. Leighton Criminal Courthouse.
The public is reminded that defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
The stop occurred along a busy South Side corridor used daily by commuters and transit riders.
