Chicago, IL – Subzero temperatures and biting winds continue to grip Chicago as a polar vortex keeps the region in its icy grip. Residents face another frigid night and Wednesday, with little relief expected until later this week.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures tonight will drop to near 1°F, with wind chills plunging to -18°F. A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect until midnight Wednesday, urging residents to limit outdoor activities and take precautions against frostbite.
Wednesday brings slight chances of snow after 3 p.m., with a high near 23°F. Breezy conditions will persist, with gusts up to 35 mph. Although snowfall accumulation is expected to be minimal, slippery conditions on major roadways, including I-55, could impact commuters.
By Thursday, Chicago may see slight improvement as temperatures reach a high of 22°F, with flurries possible early in the morning. However, residents should prepare for another cold night, with lows dipping back to single digits.
Looking Ahead: Sunny skies are forecast for Friday, offering a slight reprieve, though temperatures will remain below freezing at 22°F. Overnight lows will stay chilly, falling to around 20°F. Relief could come by next week, as forecasters suggest a possible rise above freezing.
Residents are urged to monitor weather updates and stay prepared. Bundle up, keep an emergency kit in your car, and avoid prolonged outdoor exposure.
