Chicago, IL – A dangerous cold spell continues across northern Illinois, with subzero wind chills and several rounds of snow possible through early next week. The US National Weather Service in Chicago warns that wind chills between -5°F and -15°F are expected both Thursday morning and again tonight into Friday morning.

Low temperatures will fall between -6°F and 7°F overnight, while daytime highs will struggle to reach the low 20s. Friday brings slightly milder air, with highs in the upper 20s but continued harsh wind chills before snow chances return Friday night.

According to forecasters, light snow is possible Friday night and again Saturday night into Sunday morning, with another system potentially bringing snow Monday night. Weekend highs will hover around the upper 20s to low 30s, dropping back into the teens overnight.

The National Weather Service also cautions that prolonged cold could cause rapid ice formation on rivers and potential ice jams, particularly in areas north and west of Chicago.

Residents are urged to bundle up in layers, wear insulated boots and gloves, and limit time outdoors. Pets and vulnerable individuals should be kept warm, and drivers are advised to watch for icy patches on bridges and untreated roads.
