Chicago, IL – The Windy City is set for a sharp turn toward winter this weekend as a strong cold front brings rain, gusty winds, and the season’s first chance of snow.
According to the US National Weather Service Chicago, rain will develop Saturday afternoon before mixing with or changing to snow by early Sunday morning. Lake effect snow is possible Sunday into Monday, especially along the Lake Michigan shoreline, though most areas are not expected to see significant accumulation.
High temperatures will tumble from near 60°F Friday to the mid-30s by Sunday, with wind chills dipping into the teens. The blustery conditions will make it feel like winter has arrived early across northern Illinois and northwest Indiana.
Forecasters say the cold air will linger through Monday before moderating by midweek, when highs are expected to return to the 40s. Drivers and commuters should be prepared for wet roads and reduced visibility during heavier bursts of snow near the lake.
