Chicago, IL – Temperatures and humidity levels are expected to rise significantly next week in the Chicago area, with a heat index peaking between 90 to 105 degrees forecasted from Sunday through Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service, today and Saturday will offer seasonable and comfortable conditions, with highs ranging from the upper 70s to mid-80s. Saturday will be partly cloudy with similar temperatures. However, the weather pattern will shift dramatically on Sunday as the heat and humidity build.

Sunday’s forecast includes temperatures reaching the upper 80s to mid-90s, with a slight chance of showers north of I-80. Breezy conditions will accompany the heat, but the heat index is expected to range from 90 to 94 degrees, marking the start of a potentially dangerous heatwave.

Monday will see the peak of this heatwave, with actual temperatures soaring to between 93 and 97 degrees. The heat index could escalate to between 95 and 105 degrees. Slight chances of isolated showers and thunderstorms are also predicted, though confidence in these occurrences remains low.

Tuesday will continue the trend of high temperatures, with the heat index remaining between 90 and 100 degrees. The city will experience partly sunny skies with intermittent clouds and a continued slight chance of showers.

Residents are advised to take necessary precautions to stay safe and cool, including staying hydrated, avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun, and checking on vulnerable populations such as the elderly and young children. Cooling centers and public spaces with air conditioning will be crucial resources during this period of extreme heat.
