Chicago, IL – Cooler, fall-like weather is settling into Illinois this week, with widespread frost likely across northern and central parts of the state over the next two nights. The National Weather Service in Chicago warns that temperatures could drop as low as the low 30s, especially away from the city and the Indiana lakeshore.
According to the National Weather Service, frost will first develop Wednesday night into Thursday morning in inland areas before becoming more widespread Thursday night into Friday morning. Lows are expected to range from 32 to 41 degrees tonight, and 30 to 43 degrees Thursday night.
Forecasters are advising residents with gardens or outdoor plants to cover or bring them indoors to prevent damage from the cold. Despite the chilly nights, days will stay seasonably mild, with highs climbing into the 50s and low 60s through the weekend under mostly sunny skies.
No precipitation is expected during this stretch, offering several clear, crisp fall days across the Chicago region and much of Illinois.
