Chicago, IL – The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued a Frost Advisory for parts of southern Cook County, Illinois, and Porter County, Indiana, in effect from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. CDT Friday.
Forecasters say temperatures could fall to around 32 degrees, especially inland and away from Lake Michigan, leading to frost development by early morning. The cold air may damage or kill sensitive outdoor vegetation if left uncovered.
The advisory includes cities such as Orland Park, Calumet City, Lemont, Oak Forest, Park Forest, Portage, Valparaiso, and Chesterton. Residents are urged to bring potted plants indoors and cover gardens and tender vegetation before temperatures dip overnight.
According to the weather service, frost formation will be most likely in low-lying and rural areas, while conditions closer to the lake may stay slightly warmer. Temperatures are expected to rise above freezing after sunrise Friday.
Commuters may also notice a thin frost coating on cars and lawns early in the morning before temperatures recover.
