Chicago, IL – Northern Illinois residents can expect summer-like warmth through midweek, with highs reaching near 90 degrees before a chance of storms arrives on Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service Chicago, Monday through Wednesday will feature dry conditions and partly sunny skies, with daily highs ranging from 82 to 90 degrees across the region. Cooler conditions will persist along the Lake Michigan shoreline due to steady lake breezes, with lakeside highs holding in the 70s to low 80s.
Overnight lows are expected to remain mild, ranging from the mid-50s inland to the mid-60s closer to the city. Forecasters note the warmest period will occur Tuesday and Wednesday, when inland communities could see highs near 90 degrees.
Thursday brings the first notable shift, with partly sunny skies and a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs are expected in the low to mid-80s, with slightly cooler temperatures again near the lake.
Meteorologists advise residents to enjoy the warm stretch while keeping an eye on developing weather systems later in the week. While no severe storms are currently expected, late-summer thunderstorms could bring brief heavy rain and gusty winds.
This week’s pattern marks an unseasonably warm mid-September for Chicago and much of Illinois, with temperatures running well above average.
