Chicago, IL – Residents across northern Illinois are enjoying a warm October weekend, but a dramatic shift is on the way. The National Weather Service in Chicago reports that Sunday will be breezy and unseasonably warm, with highs reaching the mid-80s and elevated brush fire danger across open farmland.
According to the NWS, Monday will remain warm with highs near 85°F, but clouds will build as rain chances increase in the afternoon. Showers and a possible thunderstorm are expected Monday night as a cold front moves through the region, bringing a noticeable cooldown by Tuesday.
Tuesday’s highs will fall into the 60s, with morning rain mainly south and east of I-55. By midweek, skies will clear, and daytime temperatures will settle into the upper 60s to low 70s—more typical for early October. Overnight lows will dip into the 40s across much of the area by Wednesday night.
The National Weather Service urges residents to stay alert for changing conditions, especially those planning outdoor activities early in the week. Breezy conditions and dry fields could increase the risk of brush fires before Monday’s rain arrives.
