Chicago, IL – Another round of snow is on the way for the Chicago area this weekend, as a fast-moving clipper system tracks from the Plains into the Great Lakes region Saturday night into Sunday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Chicago.
Forecasters say 1 to 4 inches of accumulation are expected across much of northern Illinois and northwestern Indiana, with the heaviest snow falling during the overnight hours. The timing of the system means most of the snowfall will occur while many are asleep, but slick roads are likely for early Sunday travel.
The NWS cautions that untreated roads may quickly become snow-covered, particularly in suburban and rural areas. Visibility could also be reduced at times during periods of moderate snowfall.
While this system is not expected to bring major totals, it may be enough to cause slippery conditions for early Sunday drivers and those heading out for morning church or travel plans.
Snow should taper off by mid-morning Sunday, followed by seasonably cold temperatures through the remainder of the weekend. Motorists are urged to drive with caution and allow extra time if traveling late Saturday night or early Sunday.
