Chicago, Ill. – A strong storm system moving across the Midwest is bringing gusty winds, rain, and a transition to colder conditions across the Chicago area, according to the National Weather Service.
The National Weather Service Chicago has issued a Wind Advisory in effect from Sunday evening through Monday afternoon, warning of strong wind gusts that could reach 35 to 50 mph, especially overnight and into Monday.
As of late Sunday morning, temperatures were in the mid-50s, with light rain reported in parts of the region. Forecasters say showers will continue through the day, with isolated thunderstorms possible, mainly during the afternoon and early evening hours.
Conditions are expected to worsen overnight as winds increase significantly and temperatures fall. Rain is forecast to transition to snow showers late Sunday night into Monday, with blustery conditions and wind chills dropping as low as 1 degree above zero by Monday morning.
On Monday, scattered snow showers may linger into the afternoon, with highs struggling to reach the mid-20s. Winds will remain strong throughout the day, creating hazardous travel conditions, particularly for high-profile vehicles.
Looking ahead, colder but quieter weather is expected midweek, with mostly cloudy skies and highs near freezing Tuesday and Wednesday. Additional light snow chances return midweek before drier conditions arrive toward New Year’s Day.
Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items, use caution when driving in high winds, and stay updated with the latest forecasts and advisories from the National Weather Service.
