Chicago, IL – A severe flash flood warning has been issued for parts of Illinois, impacting major highways such as I-94, I-90, and I-57. The warning, effective until 6:45 PM CDT Tuesday, July 9, 2024, is due to stationary, torrential tropical downpours.

According to the US National Weather Service Chicago Illinois, the affected areas include Oak Lawn, Blue Island, Harvey, Whiting, East Chicago, Hammond, and Gary. The weather service has urged residents to move immediately to higher ground and avoid walking or driving through floodwaters. These areas are at high risk of flooding due to the heavy rainfall expected throughout the day.
