Cheyenne, Wyoming – Fire danger is set to escalate rapidly across southeast Wyoming within hours, with powerful winds and extremely dry air creating conditions for fast-moving wildfires starting Saturday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, a Fire Weather Watch will take effect at 10 a.m. Saturday and remain in place through Monday evening. Wind gusts between 30 and 50 mph combined with relative humidity as low as 8 to 15 percent will create an environment where fires can ignite and spread quickly.

The خطر extends across southeast Wyoming, including Cheyenne, Laramie, and surrounding regions, as well as into western Nebraska. In addition to dry and windy conditions, isolated afternoon virga showers could produce erratic wind gusts and even lightning, further increasing fire ignition risks.

Travelers along I-25 and I-80 should prepare for strong crosswinds, especially in open areas and higher elevations. Loose outdoor items could be blown around, and any spark could rapidly turn into a dangerous fire.

Residents are strongly urged to avoid outdoor burning, secure equipment, and follow local fire restrictions.

The highest fire threat will persist through the weekend into Monday evening, with additional alerts likely if conditions intensify.
