Cheyenne, Wyo. – Severe thunderstorms could bring hail, heavy rain, and dangerous winds to southeastern Wyoming Tuesday afternoon, threatening evening travel and outdoor activities. The strongest storms are expected between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, storms will be widespread across the region with multiple rounds possible. The main hazards include hail up to two inches in diameter and wind gusts reaching 60 miles per hour. Heavy rainfall may also occur, raising the risk of localized flooding in low-lying areas.
Cities at highest risk include Cheyenne, Laramie, Torrington, and Wheatland in Wyoming, along with Scottsbluff, Sidney, and Alliance in western Nebraska. Interstate 80 and Highway 85 could see reduced visibility and hazardous driving conditions during the evening commute.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, avoid unnecessary travel during storm activity, and stay indoors when thunder is heard. Power outages are possible where storms strike hardest.
The National Weather Service advises that additional storm activity may linger into tonight, with warnings and advisories possible if conditions intensify.
