Cheyenne, Wyoming – A Weather Alert is in effect as major changes arrive across southeast Wyoming, with a strong cold front bringing sharply colder temperatures, snow chances, and bitter wind chills through the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, a strong cold front will move through Thursday, causing temperatures to fall into the single digits and teens, with bitter wind chills expected each morning. The coldest conditions are forecast Friday and Saturday mornings, when wind chill values may bottom out near −25 degrees.

Forecast guidance indicates that wind chills are likely to remain below zero throughout the daytime hours, even after the coldest overnight periods pass. This prolonged cold will increase the risk of frostbite and hypothermia for anyone exposed outdoors for extended periods.

Snow chances will accompany the colder air, particularly on Friday, when cloud cover and snow are most likely. While snowfall amounts remain uncertain, even light accumulations could create slick travel conditions due to the extreme cold.

Daytime high temperatures are expected to remain well below normal through Sunday, with highs generally ranging from the single digits to teens, depending on location and elevation. Overnight lows will remain below zero in many areas.

The National Weather Service notes that temperatures may begin to moderate slightly by Monday, though cold mornings will likely continue.

Residents are urged to dress in layers, limit time outdoors during the coldest periods, protect pets and livestock, and prepare vehicles and homes for extreme cold conditions.

Additional updates will be issued as the cold front moves through and snowfall details become clearer.
