Cheyenne, WY. – Breezy winds and mild temperatures will kick off the weekend across Wyoming, but an Air Quality Alert remains in effect for Carbon County, and thunderstorms may develop by Sunday along the I-80 corridor.

According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, Saturday will bring mid-to-upper 70s with west winds near the Snowy and Sierra Madre ranges. The alert for Carbon County stems from lingering smoke and stagnant air, with sensitive groups advised to limit outdoor activity.

By Sunday, warmer air pushes into the Wyoming Plains and northern Panhandle, where lower 80s are expected. Scattered afternoon thunderstorms could form near I-80, especially around Rawlins, Laramie, and Cheyenne, creating brief travel delays or reduced visibility.

Motorists on I-80 should remain weather-aware, particularly during peak afternoon hours. Residents in the region are encouraged to monitor local air quality indexes and delay strenuous outdoor activities if conditions worsen.

This weekend marks a transitional pattern, with warm late-summer highs but increasing instability by Sunday.
