Cheyenne, WY – Crosswinds strong enough to push high-profile vehicles off course will continue along I-80 and I-25 through late Saturday morning, while critical fire weather conditions stretch across the High Plains until 5 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, High Wind Warnings remain in effect for wind-prone areas of southeast Wyoming through late Saturday morning. Gusts could reach 60 mph in exposed corridors, especially between Cheyenne and Laramie along Interstate 80. Travel for semitrucks, campers and other high-profile vehicles may become dangerous, particularly near Arlington and Elk Mountain.

At the same time, Red Flag Warnings continue through 5 p.m. Saturday for areas along and south of the North Platte River Valley, including Cheyenne and communities along Interstate 25 toward the Colorado state line. Warm temperatures, low humidity and strong winds will create conditions favorable for rapid fire spread. Any spark could ignite dry grasses and spread quickly.

Officials urge residents to avoid outdoor burning and postpone activities that could produce sparks. Properly dispose of cigarettes and secure trailer chains that could drag along roadways.

Drivers should prepare for sudden gusts, keep both hands on the wheel and reduce speed in wind-prone stretches. Blowing dust may also briefly reduce visibility in open areas.

Winds will gradually ease later Saturday as a weak cold front moves in, bringing slightly cooler temperatures and improved moisture by Sunday. Until then, warnings remain in effect and conditions may change quickly.
