Cheyenne, Wyoming – The National Weather Service in Cheyenne has issued a Fire Weather Watch for much of southeast Wyoming and western Nebraska, effective from 11 AM to 5 PM on Sunday, February 13, due to critical fire weather conditions. Strong winds combined with low humidity are expected to create dangerous conditions for wildfire spread, especially in areas along I-25 and I-80.

The Fire Weather Watch covers areas that could experience gusty winds of 30 mph or higher, along with humidity levels as low as 15%. These conditions are likely to lead to rapid fire growth, particularly in dry, grassy areas and regions with little to no snow cover.

The NWS advises that outdoor burning should be avoided during this time, and fire risks will continue through the afternoon. Travelers on I-25, I-80, and nearby routes should remain cautious, as fire conditions in the area could quickly become dangerous. The Fire Weather Watch highlights portions of the Wyoming and Nebraska Panhandle areas most at risk for fire spread.

While conditions are expected to improve after 5 PM, the NWS stresses the importance of staying informed on local fire advisories, as similar weather patterns could occur in the coming days.

Residents and outdoor enthusiasts are encouraged to take extra precautions, such as avoiding open flames and keeping vehicles off dry grass. Fire danger remains elevated through the weekend and into the following week, making it crucial to stay weather-aware.
