Cheyenne, WY – A High Wind Warning remains in effect across portions of southeast Wyoming through Friday morning, as gusts up to 80 mph are expected to create dangerous travel conditions, according to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne.
The warning covers the South and North Laramie Ranges, Foothills, and areas along Interstate 25 between Chugwater and Wheatland, including Bordeaux, Arlington, Elk Mountain, and Vedauwoo. Sustained west winds of 35 to 50 mph will strengthen Wednesday morning and continue through late Thursday, with the strongest gusts expected Wednesday night into Thursday.
Forecasters warn that crosswinds may be hazardous for light or high-profile vehicles, such as campers, RVs, and tractor-trailers, particularly along I-25 and I-80. Drivers are urged to delay travel or use extreme caution if crossing open stretches or mountain passes.
Officials also caution that these strong winds could cause property damage, blowing debris, and localized power outages. Residents should secure outdoor items and avoid travel during peak wind periods when visibility could be reduced by blowing snow or dust.
