Cheyenne, Wyoming – Skies over southeast Wyoming and western Nebraska are shaping up for a stunning display of the Northern Lights tonight, with near-perfect viewing conditions expected through the early hours of Tuesday. Low cloud cover—ranging from just 1% to 10% in most areas—will give skywatchers their best shot at spotting auroras across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, mostly clear skies are forecast from Rawlins to Torrington and across the Nebraska Panhandle, including Scottsbluff and Chadron. Midnight to 3 a.m. is the prime viewing window, especially along I-80, where visibility will be nearly unobstructed.
Areas like Cheyenne, Laramie, Douglas, and Alliance, Nebraska, could all see bursts of green light if geomagnetic activity remains strong. Cloud cover will increase slightly toward morning, especially north of Lusk and near Bill, so earlier hours offer the best chance.
Residents hoping to catch a glimpse should head away from city lights and look to the northern horizon. Dress warmly, charge your devices, and keep an eye out for updates from the NWS and the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center.
Aurora viewing conditions are expected to remain favorable through early Tuesday morning, with another update likely if visibility changes.
