Cheyenne, WY – Drivers crossing the Interstate 80 Summit between Cheyenne and Laramie could face slick, snow-covered pavement by early Tuesday as a new round of snow moves into the South Laramie Range overnight.
According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 11 p.m. Monday through 5 p.m. MST Tuesday for the South Laramie Range, including Pumpkin Vine, Vedauwoo and Buford. Forecasters expect 2 to 4 inches of snow, with impacts centered along the I-80 Summit corridor.
Roads, especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick as temperatures hover near freezing. The timing could disrupt both the Tuesday morning and evening commutes, with reduced traction and brief visibility drops in heavier bursts of snow.
The Wyoming Department of Transportation urges drivers to slow down, increase following distance and prepare for sudden changes in road conditions at higher elevations. Commercial vehicles should be alert for rapidly deteriorating travel near the summit.
Snow should taper late Tuesday afternoon, but lingering slick spots may persist into the evening. Travelers can check the latest road conditions by dialing 511 before heading out, and additional advisories could be issued if snowfall intensifies.
