Cheyenne, Wyoming – A potent early-season snowstorm is targeting the Sierra Madre and Snowy Ranges, where up to 10 inches of snow is expected from late Sunday through early Monday, prompting a Winter Weather Advisory and elevated travel concerns. Outdoor recreation in these mountain zones may become dangerous due to poor visibility and drifting snow.
According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, the advisory goes into effect at 11 a.m. Sunday and continues through 5 a.m. Monday. Accumulations between 5 and 10 inches are possible, with blowing snow significantly reducing visibility—especially above 8,000 feet.
Travelers on WY-130 and WY-230 near Saratoga, Arlington, and Baggs should plan for rapidly changing conditions and difficult driving. Visibility may drop to near zero at times, especially in exposed areas. Anyone planning backcountry trips or high-elevation hikes should consider delaying their plans.
Whiteout conditions and drifting snow may increase the risk of becoming disoriented in these mountain areas, especially after sunset Sunday.
The advisory remains in effect until early Monday, and additional snowfall or blowing snow could extend hazardous conditions into the morning commute.
